What skills can be taught using the book "A Week in the Woods"?

I am using the book "A Week in the Woods" with my 5th graders, but can't find any good resources on how to teach skills like - synonyms/antonyms/compound/simile/metaphor, etc. Any suggestions? There is not Portals for REading book for this novel.
