Do you do anything in your classroom for the 100th Day of School? I haven't ever done anything with my 5th graders, but I'm wondering if there are any age-appropriate ideas out there.

In math class we estimate how long one stride is, ex. one foot, and determine how far through the building or on the playground we would get if we took 100 steps. We write down our estimates and then we take 100 steps. Kids usually find that they greatly over or under estimated the distance.

For fifth grade in our state, it is the students' 1000th day of
education!!!!! Do the math with the kids and use collections
of 1000 by having groups of ten students bring in 100 each.

What a great idea! I really love anything that makes the 5th graders feel special and helps to commemorate their last year in elementary school. I am going to get my team in on it, and maybe we can come up with a Field Day of sorts - I will post our ideas ASAP. Thanks!

Since it is the 5th graders 1,000th day of education we focus on that number instead. Here are the stations we do-

-Think of an activity you think you could do for 1,000 minutes. Figure out how long 1000 minutes is in hours. NOW, do you still think you could do your activity?

-Think all the way back to your first days in school. Write about one of your very favorite school memories.

-If I had a dollar for each day I have been in school -----

-Find the prime factorization for the number 1,000.

-Write all the factors for 1000.

-1,000 pennies-how much money is it worth? How tall is a stack of 1,000 pennies in cm? How much would 1,000 pennies weigh? Grab 20 pennies and make a bar graph by dates on the pennies. (I only give them 20 pennies to find all of these answers)

Just a neat fact - fifth graders 100th day of school is also their 1000th day of school total. Here is the link with attachments that list activities to do for 1,000 day. My students really enjoyed this last year!
