Help again! Observed Lesson

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I am being observed on Tuesday and am having troubles with my lesson plan! yikes

It is on idioms. Ultimately, I want them to be able to pick an idiom and draw a picture of its literal meaning. Then I want them to explain the idiom on a separate sheet of paper.

Problem is - I need to incorporate technology. And I have no idea how - we have 25 kids, but only about 10 laptops. We have an overhead projector. And a digital camera. That's about it.

Also, I am not sure how to start off the lesson - they already know what idioms are. My CT wants me to do this as a refresher lesson.

ANY HELP!? Thanks so much.

and I gave them a piece of computer paper and some colored pencils. I typed up a bunch of idioms and cut them into squares and each child chose one. They had to draw and write the idiom on one side literally and draw and explain it on the other side.

As far as technology, BrainPop has an idiom/cliche movie you can watch and take the practice quiz together as a class.

Good luck!

What about putting them in pairs, they can type out the idiom and it's meaning, then take pictures of themselves acting it out....feeling it might make it feel better. You can have them cycle through the camera and laptops....or you can go around taking pictures of how they will act it out while they work on the rest of the poster and then print it for them. Also here's a cute web-site where they can learn some idioms http://www.funbrain.com/idioms/

You can also print out some of these examples onto transparencies and use it with your overhead...basically kids who have done the same thing you want to do... http://www.idiomsbykids.com/

Good luck

Using Technology as a review

Could you make a power point review? Make it a jeopardy game with the columns of different kinds of idioms: food, animals, people....

Still with a jeopardy game in mind, you could have column 1 is fill in the blank to complete the idiom. Column 2 is use the given idiom in a sentence. Column 3, here is the picture, what is the idiom (Did you illustrate some in class?) I'm not sure of the age of your class and their knowledge of idioms.

Good Luck!
