and if so what types of items do you request for your fifth graders? I always see something on a list from another school and wish that I had thought of putting that on our list. Thanks in advance for sharing your list.

My list is on the computer at school, but here is what I remember:

-pencils
-pens
-notebook paper
-dry erase markers
-an old sock to use as a dry eraser
-spiral notebook

That's all I can remember. I'll check my list at school tomorrow.

We also mail the list home during the summer so that they can shop the sales and hopefully, stock-up.

We've added 2 packs of copy paper. I know it's expensive, but we get enough from parents to make the request worthwhile. I think some steal it from their workplace!

We always ask for one extra 1" binder for each student that we use to keep their all their writing in for the year. We are currently getting it all organized for them to take home the last week of school.

We also ask for post-it notes that the kids use during reader's workshop. We go through so many of them, it's always helpful to have them bring some in.

In addition to all school supplies I have them bring in a pack of baby wipes which are great to clean desks, hand sanitizer, protractor, compass, and the biggest item is a nylon organizer. I use that to have them keep track of each subject's pPers.

Rather than share my list- here is how I make mine. I make a list of each subject and write down how I want it to work. For instance, in Bible, students use the workbook, a bible, and I want them to journal. So, one spiral notebook on my list. For writing, I want them to write informally daily, draft & edit on a legal pad, and store drafts in a file drawer. So, composition books go on my list. I have TONS of crayons and colored pencils from previous years, so those supplies will be community, not put on the list. And so on...
