I'm moving to fifth grade and am wondering if anyone has a good source for writing rubrics or language arts rubrics in general. I've found some sites, but find I have to generate my own. I'm looking for pre-made ones that I can adapt to my classroom. I'm excited but feeling a little overwhelmed with all the directions I can go with writing.

Wow! Thanks for sharing all those wonderful resources... I also use rubistar which has different tools you can use that are already pre-made. You also have the ability to set-up your own requirements!

I always start out the year having the class create a rubric together so students feel a real ownership in the assessment process. Our beginning of the year rubrics are usually on "clean desk", "hallway manners" or "labeling your work". Also, be sure to go through the entire process with the class by giving each student a copy of the rubric and evaluating him/herself. Students should be able to give concrete examples of why they fit into this or that category.

The teacher that I replaced left tons and tons of docs for me and this rubric was one of them. I didn't use it this year, because our system has one they prefer us to use. I can grab that one too, if you are interested.
