Advice to Prepare for Gifted Praxis

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I'm excited and eager to enter a new phase in my teaching career. After teaching 1st and 5th grades for several years, I left public ed. for an opportunity to teach at the undergrad level. Liked it but not my cup of tea just yet. After soul searching and lots of conversations, I'm preparing to take the gifted praxis to add the endorsement to my TN license. I've worked with gifted students in my gen ed classes before and have always been most drawn to differentiation and working with students in sped, ESL, and gifted.

Found out that with my current license, I can take the praxis without further course work at this time. I'm scheduled to take the test in November and have been reading anything I can to learn and prepare for the test and work in the field. I'm struggling to find online articles or other resources to dive into. My bank account can only support so many book purchases. Any suggestions for what exactly to read to understand testing, emotional needs, planning, acceleration, etc would be extremely appreciated!

Thanks!

is the best place to start. Carolyn has an extensive online resource, with links to many other sites. Also, NAGC and SENG would be my other two suggestions. SENG especially for social emotional, their article archive is great.

I've perused a little on all fronts that you mentioned and will continue the efforts. I'm a bit nervous that there may be something about writing IEP's, which I have no experience in. Do you suspect that will be part of the exam?

Thank you!

I agree with the Hoagies site. It's great. I also subscribe to the Davidson Institute enewsletter. http://www.davidsongifted.org/
IEPs are not universal. It is up to the state or county to implement them. We don't do any GT IEPs in my district. I would suggest you look it up in your state dept. of ed. to see what their requirements are. Good luck on your exam.

Thanks! I hadn't come across the Davidson Institute and will spend time on that site. Thank you, again!

Is a blog about gt, and often leads me to places I might not have found on my own. We don't have IEPs either...

How did you do on the test. I myself am very interested in taking the clue test here in TN. Do you have any tips or suggestions on passing the test?

Do you know if that is the same option here in Alabama? I"ve already got 3 degrees in Elem Ed and certainly do not want another full degree. I am hoping all I need to do is take the Praxis II.
