I did a LTS last year from mid-February to the end of school in June. Everyone said I did a great job, the principal wrote me a great reference letter, everything went wonderfully.

And then I found out just now that they hired a new person for the exact position I subbed in. Teachers say they gave the principal my number (and I know she already had my email address) but I never heard from her. And I never saw the job posted. It's hard not to take this personally.

Hoping that the person who got the job was a tenured employee displaced from another building or something...but it's still hard.

I'm sorry to hear, that is so disappointing. . Who knows what happened;a displaced teacher, someone coming off maternity leave, someone doing some a favor, etc.... The same thing happened to me many years ago with the position going to the daughter of the principals best friend (a new graduate). To rub salt in the wound, the new hire asked me to take all her teacher training workshops that she had to attend as a a new hire because she heard I would be a perfect sub since I spent so much time in the building as a sub. yeah, no thanks!

That's actually how I found out: The teacher I LTS'ed for called to ask me to sub for him next week when he goes to a workshop. (Long story...he was f/t last year, or for the part of last year he was there for, but went down to half-time this year. The new position is basically the other half of his job, if that makes sense.)

I said yes to the sub day, because I need the money and I like(d?) the school, but it's going to be embarrassing to face everyone.

Thanks, IA11 and Teachnkids. I needed that.

I just got a text from this same teacher asking if I'd be interested in a position because something may have opened up! Maybe the new teacher isn't working out somehow. So now I'm just working on not getting my hopes up...what a roller coaster!

I once worked in a district that had a "point" system. Employees earned points based on years of experience. Well, I taught nearly a whole year FT after a teacher moved overseas, but since she had taken a "leave of absence," the position technically wasn't "open." So I earned zero points for that year.

You never know what was going on behind the scenes. Don't take it personally, and definitely don't be embarrassed. The teacher obviously likes and trusts you because he keeps calling you back.

Hopefully this new opportunity will be your big break!

The secretary just called to set up an interview! It's in 4 hours! I'm actually shaking!

Still trying not to get hopes too high...I don't know whether this interview is just a formality, or if they've got other candidates (I'm guessing not; the secretary gave the impression that they're kind of desperate), or what.

Wish me luck!

Yay, yay, yay! Lots of good luck dust being sent your way!

(That job I mentioned, where I earned zero points? I started in October, but it was one of my best teaching experiences. Sometimes things just work out right!)

The guy I LTS'ed for last year decided to come back half-time this year, so I'm basically job-sharing with him. There was a new hire, but I don't know what happened to her. Maybe she got a f/t offer somewhere else. They called me when she backed out. But I found out why they didn't call me in the first place. It wasn't personal at all, and was a good reason. I feel much better about it now!
