I need and amazing project to wrap up the year with my fabulous fourth graders. This year we have already done units with geography, designing a zoo, electing a part of speech, mystery, logical thinking and math puzzles, webquests, and analogies. I only have them for 30 minutes daily. We have four weeks left. What is a great project that you would recommend? I would like to do something hands-on (or simulation, or tech-based) and definitely collaborative. I have covered all subjects this year, so any subject is great! Thanks in advance.

I received the following resources from a fellow G/T teacher to use for a CSI unit with my fourth graders....

Solve Mysteries with Bella and Noche! Bella's Mystery Deck by MindWare
Science Solves It: Crimebusting and Detection by Crabtree Publishing Helene Boudreau
The Great Forensic Challenge by Barron's Educational Series Inc.
Forensic Science for Kids: CSI Expert! by Prufrock Press Karen K. Schultz

I'm excited to start this unit next week! Good luck!

That sounds like a great unit. We already did mysteries this year. They loved it. Have fun!

I did an "Egg Drop" experiment at the end of my school year.
The kids absolutely loved it!!

I gave the kids each a shoe box and they could choose three types of materials to cushion their egg inside the shoe box.
I let the kids decorate their egg and even name it.

I first made the students make a chart to display results

We dropped from 1 foot high and looked inside to see if egg cracked.
Students showed on their chart Yes or No for cracked and wrote down the height it was dropped from. Everyone dropped from the same height. If an egg cracked, that person was finished...we kept on until someone's egg cracked. We had to get a company with a truck with a bucket that could extend in the air to get to an extreme height..
Will do it again, Kids can't wait!!

Note* make sure you tape the shoe box lid down. kids will have to open it up each time
