Clip to ScrapBook #1

I'm a Gifted and Talented Specialist who has a pull-out program for 1st-4th graders. Each year I find myself looking for resources that I can pass onto the regular ed teachers. Does anyone have something that's worked well that teacher's have been able to implement easily or use for enrichment?

I LOVE the PETS books (Primary Education Thinking Skills). Many of the activities can be implemented in one easy lesson with the only prep being making copies. As the kids get to know the characters in the program they learn how to work their minds in different ways and really love it!

I teach first grade and I was wondering if you could tell me the exact book I should purchase. There are several choices. Thanks so much!

I love a lot of the activities in these activity books by tin man press. My partner teacher and I have our students discuss the higher level thinking skills involved in these seemingly random activities.

With PETS, I would start with the first book (but not the kindergarten version--P.E.T.S. 1. I used all three books last year with my 2nd/3rd graders and we did every activity. I think P.E.T.S. is absolutely the starting point for anyone using the program. It introduces the characters and the activities get progressively more difficult as you move through the books.

My now 3rd graders who were in the program last year still remember the character names and the types of thinking, etc. It's a great program.

I can always recommend Tinman as well. They are a wonderful resource. I used several of their books for filler time in class when we have a day or two leftover after a unit and the kids just love them.
