Types Of Assessments

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Hi -

My school is in the process of setting up a Highly Capapble Learners Program and we were wondering what types of assessments other schools out there are using to help determine if a child should be in the program. We know about Cogat7 but were wondering if there were others that were more affordable for small schools. When I say small school I am talking K-8 school with maybe 100 to 125 students on average. Any input will be appreciated!!!

We use the SAGES-2 and that works for us. We also look at their standardized test scores NWEA/MAP and in class work.

Along with naglieri nonverbal. I like Sages much better that cogat. We are a small school also. Dr. Johnsen is working on Sages-3 which will be 5 subtests, rather than the 3 it has now. We did field testing for her last year. It will be better for identifying specific areas of gifted since each core area will have its own test.

We test all second graders with the Cogat. If they have a certain score, then they go on for further testing. In the past we used the S-Frit for IQ, and the SOI for creativity, but we recently changed to the Torrance test for the creativity section. We also use the Iowa TBS.
