Interviewing at School I was Runnerup

Hi for those of you following me I came so close to a position to be runner up. The HR superintendent even called to say I was the first person he called this year who didn't get the job to let me know how great I did. Well, a different special education position opened up and I have an interview tomorrow. I'm not sure how to approach interviewing for the last and not being chosen. I'll be heartbroken if I don't get picked again. I don't want to miss out on a great opportunity. I pray I'm what they're looking for in this position.

Good luck! I would think you must have a great chance since you did such a good job on the other interview.

Best of luck! All things happen for a reason, and there was a reason you didn't get the position you previously interviewed for. Believe and remember that.

I think you probably have a good chance since they already know you and liked you a lot. I would approach it just like any interview.

Praying For You!

Just be yourself and answer truthfully. I had my first day of new teacher orientation today....our Asst. Supr. told us that sometimes they are just looking for the right fit. Hence, always be honest and do not give them an answer that you think they want to hear. Wishing you much luck and saying a prayer.

Thanks everyone! I gave it my best. I find out by the end of the week. The bugger is the next candidate to interview was clearly older so with more experience which is why I (I've been told) I wasn't picked. Hopefully good news. All new people on the interview committee. It would be pretty sucky to be turned down twice.

Thank you. I gave it my best. There weren't the same people interviewing me like last time. I find out the end of the week. The only bugger is I saw the next candidate who was clearly older than me with more experience which is why I've been told a lot for why I wasn't picked. Hopefully some good news soon!

I interviewed at 3 schools. the first I knew people on the team and had subbed for them. Didn't get it. The second I didn't get because of my lack of experience. The 3rd I got and I have been there since! I was so discouraged at my other interviews but soooooo glad I got this job!

Hopefully it works out for you!

I didn't get the job. I have to say this is the first time I actually cried over something like this. I've never had to self esteem so shot. Worse is I can't afford to not a have a job with so many student loan bills. Idk how I can make it.

I didn't get it. Apparently there was someone already working in the position so they already knew who was getting it. I didn't stand a chance.

Oh, I am so very sorry to hear this . Keep in mind, that schools often hire even into the first month of school due to fluctuations in enrollment. Have faith. The third time might be the charm!

I have had that happen to me many times when I interviewed. I thought that the school had to interview a certain demographic which is why they chose to interview me. Clearly they had someone in mind for the job already.

I had a P who looked at his phone the entire time, and I began to lose enthusiasm. The interview was also one hour after my appointment. He asked me if I had questions and I said no and left. It was clear he was going through the motions. I went home, pouted, and then applied for more jobs.

littlemsteach, I'm so very sorry. It does hurt and with the added stress of student loans, worries add to the hurt. After you've cried get back in the saddle and make plans to sub and keep applying. It will work out.

I have been there. After my first year of teaching, I had 10+ interviews for another contract position. I was rejected for every single one. I did not get a job for September. I did eventually get a job for half of the year. You never know when contracts are going to come up! Good luck in future interviews!!

that many places are required to interview a certain number for every position. There are times when they absolutely know who they want and are only going through the motions.

I've have two of these happen to me. One had the lady who had held the position for years have to re-interview for her job when it was reclassified. I can't imagine that they would have chosen anyone else. Had I known she was interviewing, I might not have applied at all. But the experience interviewing was useful.

The other was pretty much the same, but one of the committee had the courage and courtesy to explain that the competition was the person who as in the reclassified position and they had to interview various candidates. That was kind.

Any interviewing experience prepares you for the next. Selling yourself is a slightly different skill set than doing the job. Ask any politician

I just wanted to say thank all for your encouraging thoughts and support. It truly means a lot. I just had job interview rejection number #16 this summer, which I knew I wasn't getting(I was so nervous after hearing one of my friends got a job I applied for I wasn't in the right frame of mind.) however, on my long term sub interviews one of the principals said that I knocked the interview out of the park and asked how it was possible I wasn't scooped up yet? I have one more to find out if I get the job by tomorrow or Tuesday. This has been beyond an emotional draining summer interviewing and being letdown so I appreciate all the positive thoughts and advice. Thank you!

Well I haven't had as many interviews as you have, but I have some understanding of what you are going through. I am waiting to hear about an interview I went on this morning and I have one more recent application out there. If I don't get anything, then I will sub.
