Very Bright but did not make gifted cutoff

Hi,
What advice would you give parents at Spring Open House, who approach the gifted specialist after their child did not qualify for gifted (they were tested), when they ask for advice on how to enrich their child?

I really can't share "parts" of my gifted program, because it is very tailored to meet the needs of the children in my program. I'm new to this position (less than one year). I'd like to encourage parents to work with their child's reg ed teacher in the classroom to allow them the opportunity to differentiate and enrich them where opportunities exist in the classroom (many have not). However, they seem to want more (more enrichment, perhaps, from home).

What advice can I give?
Thank you

Do you work at all with classroom teachers to help them with differentiating in their classrooms? I know that many of our classroom teachers - especially those who've only been teaching for a short time - have no idea how to differentiate for "very bright" kids, nor do they have the resources to do it with...

I constantly provide our classroom teachers with materials, websites, anything I think might be useful to work with those kids who are "on the edge." Part of being the "specialist" at our district is working with the classroom teacher...

The only other suggestion I have would be to tell parents to look for outside enrichment - music lessons, art, online classes.. etc.

Give them a book list specifically for gifted readers and several web sites that are appropriate in various subject areas and thinking skills (Math Playground has a bunch). There are also a lot of games that you can suggest, many from Mindware, that they can play as a family.
