Clip to ScrapBook #1

I have to clean my room entirely out. Some stuff will go to the new 3rd Grade teacher. Some to my partner (stuff we did this year), some I will keep.

Today I emptied out my desk into these plastic drawer things. Don't know if that will stay that way, but gotta travel the stuff somehow. I sorted through my cabinets (all done). I did 2 of the remaining 4 file drawers (hard because that is stuff I have actually used in the last several years). My closet is sorted to things the 3rd grade needs, things that I am keeping (not much), and stuff for a few others (new teacher).

I have the bookcase I use often and those 2 file drawers. Then I have to get things moved to where they go (hoping to use students on Wed. and Thursday.)

The ONLY thing I haven't done anything with is the classroom library. I waffle between getting rid of it all, storing it all, and someplace in between. No decision made yet. I might see how much space is left in my new room for storage (not much. to decide. I really don't want to carry it all home. Not going to happen.

K-5. Next year instead of being a General Ed 3rd Grade teacher, I will be our school Technology teacher, of which we have never had one before!

I get the struggle with books. Every year I swear I am going to "downsize." We have an amazing library and librarian. I've done much better this year and the room looks neater and less cluttered. For me, that is a win!

But I always seem to have some of those books I can't quite get rid of.

For giving me an idea of where to start!! I am moving from gen Ed classroom to instructional coach so I will not need most of my things, I think. I have no idea to do with my personal books from my classroom library either. Keep posting, please.

Passing books to the new teacher isn't going to work as the new teacher hasn't been hired, and the room will be a different grade level. I did give some of them to a teacher who we hope is able to return.

I found a way to get most of my library into some shelves high up against the ceiling that nothing is stored in right now. Way too many, but... Maybe if my position remains after year one, I will start purging them slowly. I assume I will need some storage for things in the new job...

I purged most of my paper files. The only things I kept were samples of items that I have used and just can't let go of yet. I purged folders and files. I was brutal. If there are things you have difficulty with, save them until last. You will be ready to purge by then! I held on to a few teacher resources that will be of use in my new job. Gave the others to our giveaway table - or to my grade level teammate who will use them.

I was exhausted Thursday night when done. I have been purging and sorting through things for weeks - the last month at least. Getting most stuff put away took forever. I will still have a lot of work when I go back. All the stuff I will need access to and needs organized is in crates and drawers around the table that will be my desk. My legs were so tired they ached and cramped all night long. I didn't sleep well, but I am done.
