How much have you driven?

DH put gas in his truck for the first time since March 12. Usually he fills up every week.

My mom’s car hadn’t been driven in so long that is had a flat tire and a dead battery.

We bought my car in early October. I’ve drove it to work until March 13, and since then it’s been the one we drive to get groceries or supplies, check on Mom, or just drive around because we are wanting out for the house. With the few day trips we did over Christmas break and before everything shut down, our trips to move DSS, and a few hiking trips, my car just now hit 4000 miles. I always do get the low mileage rate on insurance, but this is quite unusual.

How about you?

I'm still on a tank of gas I bought back in late February. I'm pretty sure I've walked a lot farther than I've driven, since I'm up to 230 miles walked since I downloaded the app in April.

We have two cars (certainly don't need two at the moment!) and try to alternate when we have to go to the store or doctor. There are too many stories about dead batteries.

We bought a new car at the end of February. It's hardly been driven at all! If I'd known what was coming, I'd probably have waited. But I do love it, and hopefully there will be places to go in the next few months.

I was just thinking that I'm going to drive for the first time in months tomorrow. I wonder if I remember how? I seriously do wonder that...

Since lockdown started in March, I had driven my car maybe 2x until May. Iíve spent $20 in gas since March. I now drive it about 2x a week as things slowly open up. All local.

We use my husbands car for most things, including our weekly trips to the cottage since April. Lots of mileage put on that car as itís a 3hr trip one way.

I was the same. I barely left the house between mid March and mid May. Quite a change since I usually go back and forth between two states every second or third week - 900 miles round trip.

Now I'm back to going once a month, but drive straight through and basically quarantine in between. I went to the PO box today and it was the first time I'd left the house in about a week.

I don't drive that much to begin with. My commute is short and everything I need is close by. 95% of the time if I'm going downtown I take Uber. Not only do I not want to deal with parking down there, but usually if downtown I'm having a few drinks and I don't like to drink and drive, even if realistically I'm probably nowhere near the legal limit. It just makes me too nervous. I got a new car in January 2019 and it has just over 7,000 miles on it.

I went on one tank of gas from late February to early June. During the true shut down, the only places I went were Trader Joe's and the regular grocery store. The grocery store is maybe .5 miles away. TJ's is about 10 minutes. On weeks I didn't go there, I made sure to drive the car around for about 20 minutes once per week because I was afraid of a dead battery.

I started getting out a bit more at the beginning of June. I get take out now and I've done some "non-essential" shopping. I also am going food shopping more often now and and not "stocking up" with weeks of food at a time. I had a friend visiting at the end of June and we went to some outdoorsy touristy spots in other parts of the state, so I actually went through an entire tank of gas the week she was here.

Before March 13 I drove 100 miles a day round trip so I gassed up 3 times per week. As soon as the shut down hit that was the first thing I noticed was that I gassed up 1 time every 2 weeks. Watching those gas prices drop considerably was so surprising! I have responsibilities with my mom who lives down the mountain so I tried to stretch it to every 10 days. Beginning in June I traveled 2 times per week so I got gas around 1 time per week or so. The biggest challenge was planning stops for restroom breaks when everything was closed! I say bring it on! I'm ready now!

Up until this month I think I had only filled up once since March. This month I've made a 6 hour drive 5 times, at about a tank each drive, and I've got 3 more of the same drive throughout the month. Then I'll probably be back to very little driving again (although I need to take my teen out driving - hoping he can get a license sometime this year!).

As I was about to load 3 cats into the car for their vet visits, I discovered my battery was dead. So the answer to your question, not much driving.

My vet was very understanding and at least I was at home since it took most of the day before a tow truck arrived.

This post reminds me that I should gas up today. Only used my car maybe 5 times since February. I don't like to let the old tank get below 1/2 full.

But only because DH has been driving it to work once in a while. Our insurance gave us a discount on premiums because we have not driven much.

FL to PA in April
PA to FL and back to PA in June
PA to FL for good in July.

When we were home in May and June I was driving about an hour a day to help my sister, go to Dr. appointments, pack my house, move to new campgrounds, and take care of my mom.

In all, close to 5,000 miles.

Driving during the pandemic was wonderful. We had almost no traffic wherever we went.

On our most recent trip to Fl the traffic was back to normal.

On a side note, drivers around Baltimore are the least helpful with letting an RV merge or change lanes.

I have filled my tank about 4 times since March, but only maybe once since June. We have actually gassed up the boat more than the car!

DD and I took quite a few rides to the coast in April and May just to get a change of scenery. We also visited some hiking trails.

I usually do not drive much in the summer. We hang out at home a lot since we live on a lake. Hannaford is about 1.5 miles away and my sister lives about 2 miles away. The furthest I go is maybe 15 miles to go out to eat.

DH drives to the other side of the city to work every day. He has been rotating which vehicle he drives. I drive maybe once e very 2 or 3 weeks.

My car gets driven just a little less than it used to. It just had 2 1/2 months of not driving to work which was only 1 mile away. I still drive 20 miles away, at the least once every 2 weeks to get groceries. Been to the city once since March (near 60 miles away).

DH still drives his every day to work, which is 30 miles away. He also has to run to Menards at least a couple times a month (20 miles away). We are doing things around the house so we need supplies.

I have barely driven since March. The first time I got in the car was mid April and it was a tad disorienting. Iíve put gas in twice since the start of this. Both times I only needed half a tank but it was so cheap! During June I started taking long rides for a change of scenery.

In March when we started our lockdown I made it a point to drive once a week for 5 miles just so my battery wouldn't die. At the time there was almost no traffic and it was eery to drive on completely empty freeways. In May I started doing take-out every two weeks at my favorite vegan Thai restaurant 12 miles away. Traffic has picked up again but still isn't as bad as before the lockdown.

I alternate driving for errands with a neighbor. I used to fill up every week to week and a half. Now, it is more like every three weeks, maybe more. We alternate cars so they get driven. I am not going anywhere unless there is a need for something specific and no vacations or day trips.

My van needed a new battery from sitting so long.
Mostly just appts. and a few trips to stores and pharmacy for me and DH. Our daughter used our second car to do regular shopping.
USAA insurance sent us premium refunds because everyone was driving less.

I've put 1284 miles on my car since March 12, but 300 of those were a drive to the coast and back this weekend.

I've been driving more than before we shut down. DH has dementia, and car rides give him something to do. He doesn't do well if he has to stay home all the time. We live in a fairly rural area, so we've done a ton of driving around looking at what there is down lonely roads.

I finally hit 3000 miles last week since before Christmas. I had the sticker on my windshield from my last oil change and got it changed again last week. I am sure it will be awhile before it needs to be changed again this time. Usually it is every three months not seven between changes for me.

I think Iíve bought gas three times since March. I should also note, I usually wait until I get a low on gas warning to fill up, but since staying home Iíve been getting down to about half a tank. Iím planning on buying gas again in August.

Weíve stayed pretty close to home this whole time and we generally take DHís Volt (electric/gas) out for errands.

I haven't driven a lot but I have driven at least 2-3 times a week. I've had to pick up prescriptions for DH at Target, grocery shop, drop off some groceries at DS's that I bought, pick up take-out, etc.

I haven't driven as far as I haven't gone to school but I still get out 3-4 times a week.
