Thoughts for our Small Town

The Forest Service and other entities are battling a very difficult wildfire here. The Moose Fire. It is in extremely rugged terrain around and within the Salmon River Corridor and only about 8-10 miles, as the crow flies, from our small town

It is now over 25,000 acres, and fire personnel are doing all they can to create fire breaks to prevent more spread. Hundreds of people are under the "Set" protocol, meaning they need to prepare to "Go" at a moment's notice. The high afternoon winds have caused it to jump roads and the river, usually good fire breaks.

Unfortunately, last night, a Chinook helicopter crashed in the Main Salmon River. (I am of the thought they were using the river to dip their huge water buckets.) The 2 pilots were pulled out, but succumbed to their injuries later. These men truly loved what they did and knew the risks involved, but they leave family, friends, and colleagues grieving. One was from Post Falls, ID, the other from Anchorage, AK.

Please, keep their loved ones in your thoughts, as well as the safety of both the firefighters and our community. Thank you.

Iím so sorry this is happening near you. Such destruction of land, forest and wildlife. The loss of human life is heartbreaking. Prayers for the emergency workers and people near the fire.
