I read no talking by Andrew Clements every year. The kids love it and the bonus is they always want to try the no talking contest when we finish the book.

The book is wonderful and all my students couldn't wait to hear it everyday...even the boys, which is most of my class. The character is a 5th grade boy born with facial deformations who is attending school for the first time as a fifth grader. Highly recommend it!

I agree nette25! I read this book for the first in the Spring of last year and just finished it with this years' class. The book hits on alot of themes and is funny, heart breaking and very contemporary. Just a warning-my students usually tell me they never enjoy another read aloud book quite as much as Wonder. It just resonates on so many levels with today's kids, giving a "fly-on-the-wall" view of what it would be like to feel like everyone else on the inside, when you look so different on the outside. Love, love, love this book! Bonus-it's just so fun to read too!
