Good Vent. A district that is successful with e-learning

I just started a new job as an instructional assistant at a district down the block from me. I left a district that was a 30 minute drive. the convenience will save me at least a couple of hours a day of my life.

Anyway, I sat in on zoom classes all day yesterday on my first day, and was extremely impressed with the teachers and the students.

Attendance was good, student participation and engagement was good, and the teaching was high quality and it almost felt like we were in person in the classroom. The students learned a lot and everything was productive.

I know it was only one day, but it was good to see that remote learning can work. Those students are very lucky and maybe wonít be as behind when they can get back into the classroom.

So is this the job you were asked to join at the last minute? I wondered what happened with that. Sounds like it's a great change and a fantastic experience!

I missed the post where you decided to go this direction. I sure hope that things continue to work out. I do like hearing good things.

Yes, I decided to take a job at a district in my suburb two minutes from home. Right now they are fully remote indefinitely with evaluations occurring whenever there is a school board meeting to see where we are at with cases, etc.

I already feel less tired than at the district I just left. My old district moves to hybrid next week and school will go until 3:40 every day. I live 30 minutes away. My new school gets out at 2:10 every day and will be a two minutes commute when we go back, Right now I can work at home.

I know a lot of you would prefer to go off to work in person, but my ideal for my retirement job would be to eventually work online permanently. When things are normal, I attend band and theatre rehearsals in the evenings and that is my socialization.

It sounds like you got your dream job! You'll be amazed how those 2 extra hours a day help you. You'll feel better rested and have more time.
You might even find yourself stopping by the school every now and then because it is so close.
It makes parent teacher nights, conferences, and every late night event easier to live close to your school.

Better yet, as a teaching assistant, I would never be required to be at any evening events anyway.
