I need to come up with 4 lessons for this subject area for first grade students. Any ideas? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

One of the lessons I did with my first graders was making beads out of old magazines. We cut long triangles and rolled the paper around the pencil starting with the wide end. I can't remember the exact website I found the instructions but here is a link from freekidscrafts
http://www.freekidscrafts.com/make_m...elry-e139.html My kiddos loved this project. I hope this helps.

If you go to the EPA's website you can find some things there. Maybe if you look at the kids site it will give you some ideas.

When teaching about polar regions and penguins I used jmeacham's igloo idea made from milk/water jugs and it was AWESOME! Her website is the same name with .com added. Check it out!!

I LOVE Jack Johnson's 3 r song. The kids love it too. We do this unit much later in the year and they can pretty much read the lyrics as it is sung.

I also use this poem:
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Reduce, reuse, recycle-
words we all know.
We have to save our planet
so we can live and grow.
We might be only children,
but we will try you’ll see.
And we can save our planet-
it starts with you and me!

I have the kids bring in old wrapping paper, ribbons etc. and we have a session of making a snowman using the recycled materials.
