So who is retiring or has retired this year? Post here when your last day is and we will have a virtual toast sometime in June.

I've been waiting for this post! June 2 is my last day (if it doesn't snow in Va tomorrow as predicted). So there's Reader, me, and who else?

I will turn the lights out in my classroom for the last time on June 17th. Then I will be burning rubber out of the parking lot!

My last day
Old 03-25-2014, 08:43 AM

Clip to ScrapBook #12

I am retiring this year. My last day is May 23, provided it FINALLY warms up and we have no spring blizzards or snow storms. With the winter we all have had this year, I am crossing my fingers!!

At first I was glad that I put in my papers. Then I went through a phase where I was having trouble 'letting go' of it all. Now it is getting easier to clean out and give away.

My official retirement date is July 1, but I will be finished mid June! I am ready mainly because of what is required for kindergarten children. We have forgotten child development and how important play is for young children. It will be bittersweet to leave.

May 28 is my last day with kids. Then we are packing our house and moving. Sooooo much to do, but I am excited.
It will be 35 years of teaching at year's end. Started in 1974 but took 5 years off with my kids when they were little. Lots of changes in those 35 years. Not always for the better.

In response to navymom. Yes, a little scary. After 40 years of my identity being a teacher, it is a little scary to lose that.

I began in 1972 and was never ready until this year. The new requirements and demands are disheartening. I cannot imagine anyone teaching long term anymore. I hope it cycles back for the young teachers soon! I will gladly toast to the end of a wonderful career. I have no idea what will come next, but bring it on!

Retiring is a bit scary until you settle in a bit. It's a life change. I know I was very anxious and unsure and it took me a year or so to really realize that I like being retired.

Retirement is a process, it will unfold for each of you. If you are like most of us, you will find it a wonderful state of being.

My last day is June 13. This has been the toughest class of my career. Looking forward to retirement but still a bit uncertain about how to spend my time each day. My life has revolved around planned periods and a bell ringing. Time to get rid of my watch?

For those of you retiring this year, you will be going through a rollercoaster of emotions. As broomrider said, it will take a while before you are settled. It is definitely a life change, and for most of us here it has been one for the better. I think I can speak for many of the retired folks here and say that we LOVE being retired! Welcome to our club!

6th year teacher, so I still have quite a ways to go, but we have 5 teachers retiring from my school this year! 2 on my team alone

A big loss for our school, but well deserved by all. Enjoy your retirements and pray for the young ones haha!
