PT Docs:Depression...hormonal imbalance?

Recently I have been feeling depressed and I can't determine why.

I am 46 and I am a special Ed TA. I generally work with 8th graders and this year we do have a tough class. I have always found some joy in being with this age group but it seems like their attitudes and comments are really getting to me. Even the 6th and 7th graders are annoying me. I feel like it's June even though it's September.

I have lower lumber ache and sciatic nerve issues. I am on back pain meds that I will call today because it's not working so I'm not sleeping well and I want rule it out as far as depression.

I have also loss both of my parents within the last year.

At first I thought it PMS but I have an ongoing feeling that I could burst into tears at any time. I have kept it together at work but not so much at home.

DH thinks it's just a mid life crisis. He is open to me finding another job but I don't want to make an emotional decision.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

I am NO expert...and am going thru similar issues...but it does sound like a hormonal imbalance

A couple weeks ago I took a class on Menopause Survival...anyway...this place swears by the Progesterian creams...they say they help. I use it twice a day and it has helped me to sleep...

Good luck and breath...

You could try taking EVening Primrose Oil 2 or 3x/day. I took 1300mg 2x/day for years and it kept me from crying all the time.

It could be peri-menopause, but you are also grieving and you are on pain meds, which are depressants. One thing I would consider is getting of the meds, since they're not working anyway, and go to a chiropractor! You might also consider a support group (I know most Hospice organizations provide group grief counseling) and if things don't improve, see your doctor! (((HUGS))) Depression is tough!
