Because of the teacher shortage my state is transitioning to a 10 year teaching certification. I had a lot of points already so with all this time at home I took the online trainings and Iím now certified through 2030! I donít plan to use it but I didnít see pandemic coming, either.

My state still issues lifetime certificates once you earn your master's degree. I could teach untill long after I'm dead!

I never knew about lifetime certificates. It makes sense to me. Just last year even those with a Masters had to take the equivalent of two college classes every 5 years. And generally pay for them, too.

I earned my masters two years after my bachelor's degree way back in 1974 all while teaching full time in Indiana. Back then if you had a master's plus 5 years of teaching experience you received a life license. I can't remember when they stopped this type of license.

NJ certificate is permanent, then 20 hours of approved professional development per year, four years in same public school district to get tenure.
