Please add your PT name to the list below and edit if it changes (mine will, based on the school board’s announcement this week, probably move to the retired list, for example).

RETIRING BECAUSE OF THE UNCERTAINTIES OF THE NEXT YEAR

I retired at the end of the 2019 school year. I thought about doing one more year. I am so glad I retired when I did. I feel very blessed.

I retired this last May. The decision was made and approved with my local school board in January - so the virus was not in my bag of pros in deciding to retire early.

I did think about forcing myself to doing one more year. But when the January deadline came, I took a deep breath after thinking about doing another year, and I signed the paper work to retire. Whoo, deep breath.

Boy! I should have gone gambling that day for it looks like I won on that move.

I do feel for those still in teaching. I am a worrier, and with the fear and stress of getting the virus on top of the pressure to perform, teach successfully the kids, and attempt to meet all the demands of the administrators, parents, state and federal government, I would have gotten a free ticket to la-la land. Using the computer for everything alone would have made me snap before the first week was over.

So I am retired.

I requested a retirement form in Oct. 2019 and they asked me three times if I was sure . I said if I wasn't so busy i would have requested the form in Sept. It took until Jan. 2020 to get signed and approved. So no Covid was not a factor but sure was the icing on the cake.

I retired in 2018. The stress was getting to me and I could afford to make the decision. I had originally planned on working till this past June. So glad I got out when I did. Things always seem to happen for a reason...

Second retirement?

My situation is different because I retired a number of years ago. Our district was struggling, and leaving was almost a necessity. Since then, I've subbed and worked in teaching-related jobs. Now, it's just subbing, and I was hoping to work for at least one more year.

There was a great deal of hope that the COVID-19 situation would improve over the summer, but in many places, that isn't happening. I'm not completely certain at this point, but I probably won't return.

Like Mugs I decided to retire in January. Then with the state of the economy this spring I got scared and considered doing one more year. But I wouldn't want to teach next year. Both in person and remote teaching will be difficult, and I worry about the health of teachers and other staff.

It's funny, originally this year was going to be the year I retired. However, due to various circumstances I ended up retiring early 3 years ago. Now I am so happy I don't have to deal with the stress of the upcoming year. And I'm going to start collecting S.S. in a few months!

I retired four years ago and couldn't be happier not to be returning to work for the upcoming school year.

Thankfully I retired June, 2019. If I had planned to go back for one more year, I would not under present circumstances.

I just retired at the end of December 2019. I was able to take one trip before lockdown. This is not the retirement I expected. But it sure beats working with a pandemic! I actually love being retired, just wish I could do a bit more with these precious years.
