I was leaving my grocery store a little while ago, and a truck tried to park next to me. We were parked perpendicular to the building at the curb. I was waiting for him to park so I could pull out.

He kept going back and forth and then went like 2 spots down and took several tries to get in there. The last try he was going forward erratically (it looked like he was on both the gas and brake or something???) and crashed hard into the curb. For a minute I was scared he was going to jump the curb and go through the store window.

I was concerned at this point so I sat and watched to see if he looked alright. He was probably around 70ish it was hard to tell. He then sat in his truck for a long time and then got out and back in like 3 times. He finally got into the store.....

I decided to call the non-emergency number to get someone to check on him. He may have been fine I dont know but I was thinking something medical or disoriented or something....I was just afraid for him to come out and drive again.

I hope I did the right thing and did not waste everyone's time....I just felt something was off with him.

I'm sure you did the right thing. I would have called, too. You never know, and the police appreciate someone calling and asking them to check.

So now that I fixed my typos.....he definitely was not going to hump the curb....jump the curb....

I should have left it just for laughs.

!!

Something similar happened to me a few years ago. The police said they would go check on this older gentleman, and that I had done the right thing.
You did the right thing too!

Thank you for doing the right thing. Hopefully, they arrived to check before he finished in the store and drove off.

I think you did the right thing. He could be perfectly fine, and just not great at parking (and maybe the getting in and out had a good reason too), but you never know. Thank you for caring about him!

That would be concerning to me too

There's so many reasons for why he could've been doing that. Impairment, age, possible mental issues. If my family member was acting like that, I'd be grateful to someone who called it in.

That's a tough call but based on your explanation I think you did the right thing.

I've had to make a call like that a couple of times. Thanks for calling!

The peace officers, etc are there to help. I would bet a welfare check is a preferable type of call.

Good call.

You did the right thing. 911 would have also been appropriate. It sounds like he shouldn't have been driving for whatever reason. Hopefully they were able to get him help.
