How do you cook sweet potatoes? I don't care for them but my husband loves them.

I have been steaming them and then adding a little salt, some brown sugar and butter. Need new variations.

Can be cooked in the air fryer for a low fat option.

I roast them.
- peel and chop into bite size pieces
- drizzle with olive oil
- spread out on foil lined sheet pan
- sprinkle with salt
- bake at 400* until tender

Cut like French fries, tossed in a spray of olive oil (misted) and baked at 400 until tender.

I roast them like all41 mentioned. I also like them baked (done like a baked potato). I scoop them out, add a bit of butter and salt and pepper. I find them sweet enough so no brown sugar for me.

I find them naturally delicious, so I just roast them in the oven.

I boil them, then cook them with a brown sugar/butter glaze. I know it's not the healthiest, but it is delicious!

We bake or roast them.

This was a hit as an appetizer but they could certainly be part of a meal. These were our guests favorite by far!

I bake them and serve with butter and drizzle with maple syrup, sprinkle on pecans.

Make it a meal and top with roasted broccoli and black beans.

I will also mash them with butter, salt, pepper, and a little milk. Serve with a handful of pecans.

We love love love sweet potatoes. Baked, roasted, fries, smashed . . .yum! But, I can't stand them with syrup, brown sugar, or marshmallows. Growing up, we only had them at Thanksgiving and then always with the sweet stuff. I hated them!

My husband has never been a fan. I recently found a roasted recipe on Pinterest with various seasonings like chili powder, garlic powder, cumin. The recipe I found had you cut them in cubes, season and roast. He is really liking them and we have often. For a shortcut I have bought the SP fries in the freezer section and added the spices. We like them crisp and crunchy.

I love this mashed sweet potato recipe:

Boil the sweet potatoes and drain.

In the hot pot melt 1/2 stick of butter on low heat. To the butter add half a banana cut up and the zest and juice of one orange. Add some grated nutmeg.

Add the boiled sweet potatoes And 1/2 cup of half and half. Mash and season with more nutmeg, salt and pepper to taste. I also like to sprinkle a mixture of cinnamon and white sugar on the sweet potatoes.

We make sweet potato fries with chili powder on them. It sounds like an unusual combination but they are really good. I use the recipe on laurainthekitchen.com

We usually just bake them and put butter on it. MUCH better than the microwave.

No sugar! Olive oil, salt and pepper only. 375 degrees for about 25 minutes. Sugar...ew.

They actually taste quite good raw, sliced into smaller pieces. Make a good addition to a tossed salad.

I LOVE sweet potatoes!!

Roasted in small chunks with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Mashed with butter, salt, and pepper.
Mashed with butter, cinnamon, and a bit of nutmeg.
Sliced and baked with cumin, chili powder, salt and pepper.
Baked with butter.
Baked with butter, cinnamon, and a bit of nutmeg.
Cut into "fries" and baked with salt and pepper or the cumin/chili powder blend.
Baked into a pie. (SO much better than a pumpkin pie!)

Basically, I love them any way I can get them.

in North Carolina, they had a potluck afterward. There were at least 5 different sweet potato casseroles. My favorite had glazed pecans on top. No recipe. But still memorable ten years later.

I make them really unhealthy.

I slice them and fry them in some shortening and sugar until they caramelize.

Instant pot
Old 08-04-2020, 03:19 PM

Iím a newcomer to the delights of the sweet potato. My mom would make the canned yam and marshmallow thing at Thanksgiving and I hated it. I thought those were sweet potatoes and refused to try them for decades. I was wrong!

You can bake them in the oven, as posted earlier, but if you have an instant pot you can just cook them in there. I poke them with a fork and set a 35 min timer, which might be too long for some.
