Silly idea...Would you be interested?

Last night, I couldn't sleep and as I was trying to fall asleep, an idea popped into my head. It could be stupid, it could be fun, who knows. Here goes:

Would anyone be interested in a "PT Posting Competition"? It would be a "competition" or just a "for your information" of who can get the most posts in a month. I was thinking people could sign up and then I'd track posts. I'd record the names of participants on a spread sheet and on say August 31st before I go to bed, I'd record the number of posts. Then on September 30th, before I went to bed, I record the number of posts for each participant again. I'd use that to figure out how many posts someone made in a month. Then we could do a "Top 3 Poster competition". Maybe it's stupid, maybe it would be fun. I don't know, but I do know I always wonder how many posts I make on PT in a week, month, year, etc. Obviously the results may be a little off if you post after I go to bed, but it will be close enough!

Also, hopefully since we are all adults, we won't SPAM the boards just to get posts.

If people are interested, I think I'd post a "sign up" thread towards the end of August. However, before I start, I just wanted to see how many people would be interested in something like that.

Sorry if that's a stupid idea, just something different that came to me! I know many of us like games and competitions!

I might be in the minority, but I think posting just to post will fill the board with unhelpful commentary and hide or 'bury' those posts that really would like input, comments or information. I'm afraid there's not much of a way to avoid 'SPAM' if posts are made just to increase numbers of posts. (I can already imagine. "I woke up today and had coffee." or "Here's another picture of my ____ (fill in the blank.)" Maybe if there were more specific parameters it might work, for example: "It must provide information that can be useful to the membership..." or something along those lines

um, no thanks. I'm with Risa on this one. I just envision spam and nonsense. Isn't there a rule against trying to post a lot to increase membership rating?

I agree with Risa, I'm afraid this will start to look like a series of FB updates or something. And as Dutchgirl said, I believe there is something in the TOS that is against inflating your post count superficially.

The idea of a competition is fun. The PT leaders used to do stuff like that every so often- usually to get posting up on lesser used boards. Maybe you could adjust your competition so it focused on responding to posts on boards that don't get as much traffic (leaving some people with no responses). I'd be a little worried people would post unhelpful things, but maybe you have some creative ideas about how to have some quality to posts.

Thank you for your idea. I like that you were trying to find a way to get more people posting. We love PT and donít want it to dwindle. We just need to keep it relevant.

I’m with Linda, I appreciate your effort to increase posts, but I also agree with the others that I want the posts to be meaningful. Thanks for trying.

Of Course!

Of course! No problem at all! I appreciate the honesty and I'm totally okay not doing it and understand where you are coming from. It was just a random thought I had when I couldn't sleep last night...coupled with the thought of me always wanting to know how many posts I typically get in a week or month!

On a side note, years ago, I belonged to the WB message boards (before it was the CW) and it had an average post per day feature. It had the exact date you joined and your number of posts, and then there was a feature in your profile that showed on average how many posts per day you made.

Yep, keep it relevant. I might visit less if I had to skip over more.

I think posts should be quality, not quantity.

How about a Thread Killer Competition. I think I would win.

I know your intention is good, but I see the boards being filled with garbage just to get posts.

Even the thread killer caused some of that.

Additionally, many are gearing up to start school again and won't be on as much.

I'll just add that it sounded like something new to try. But like others, I'm afraid it could get out of hand. If it's a contest, it feels like you just have to post something- anything and it gets kinda silly or even boring.
Great that you were thinking of us though!!

I think the fact that you were thinking of this while you were trying to fall asleep proves what a warm and caring place PT is and how grateful we are for each other!
