Call me crazy, but I just filled out the LONG application to sub in my district. (I taught over 30 years, and I still have to go to sub training. ) I will only work at the campus I just retired from in May since I know everyone there. I will limit myself to maybe once a week or two. I have no problem saying no to the principal or district if asked to do more.

We will see how this works. ???

Our district is going to be super short on subs. I'm not sure what will happen when a teacher tests positive and there are no subs for her.

They will need good, dependable subs. They will be lucky to have you.
I was thinking of subbing too. Not this year...good luck!

Iíve been retired for two years and each year I subbed once or twice a month. I only did preplanned requests in my old school. This year I just sent in that I would not be on the sub list. I only subbed to see my old students and old colleagues. Now itís not worth the risk for me. But Iíll miss it. Good luck to you.

I was wondering how subs would actually work this year. Our district is so short on subs that my principal BEGGED me to sign up.
Luckily for me I'm not allowed until Dec. 15 . (I think i was put on the list already by someone starting on that date)😞

That was before they went virtual. It's a big mess right now because there will be no subs. The worst part is that they will not be hiring for the 3 open positions at my site either. Those grade levels will be receiving "extra" students. Who would want to sub
for possible 35+ kinder or firs grade on line!

I hope it all goes well, Tigercat. You are a better gal than me. My district offered to set aside background checks if we signed up to sub back in May. Well, committing to any work prior to my first retirement check negates my separation from employment and therefore jeopardizes my retirement. I declined their offer. There is no way I would want to sub this year. Blessings on you for being willing to do so.

could call you crazy! Some districts are hiring subs for the district full time this year out of desperation.
It is great though if you have no problem saying, "No!" A P could not guilt trip me into subbing more than I wanted, but I know teachers could.
I have had times that I know the only reason the sub came and stayed a couple of weeks was b/c they felt bad for me/ my situation.
It is good I know my limitations, I guess!
