I just got a job teaching 6th grade ELA and this new district using 6 Traits Writing. While I know of it I have used John Collins and Writer's Workshop in the past. Wondering if anyone out there can give me pointers on the best practices in teaching using 6 Traits. TIA.

I was part of a team that did a workshop on them. We had success with focusing on one trait at a time. We used one piece of writing and made re-writes focusing on one trait at a time. After going through all six traits, the students had created a piece of writing that was not only good quality, but they were proud of it as well. We also purchased a $99 kit from scholastic that had resources for each trait. I think it was called "trait crate". I moved to 6th grade science 4 years ago and can't remember the exact name.
