What assessment(s) do you give at the end of the year? There are way too many to use them all so we need to choose one or two quickly!

(fwiw, I dislike Wonders and really hate the assessments )

What are you trying to assess? We were required to give the unit assessments. I also gave a version of the Basic Phonics Skill Test (BPST) 4 times over the course of the year.

There's the rub - we aren't using these assessments for any purpose other than we are being told we need to give them. We aren't using them to teach, don't need them for report cards, we aren't passing them along to the first grade teachers, nothing. We just need to show that we've "thoughtfully" chosen assessments and are giving them 3x a year. It's so stupid!

I use the unit assessments for assessing comprehension. The first five questions are comprehension questions. The rest is solely for the district. I use the BPST to assess reading foundational skills which I need for report cards and guided reading grouping. I did discover that my students needed more work in phonemic awareness that they were getting by giving the unit tests.
