Having the best times being sick

I'm having the best times being sick. Strange I know. I have a sorta bad summer cold complete with all the annoying symptoms. It's quite nice being sick when you don't have to go to work sick or make lesson plans. I canceled my bible study yesterday and tutoring today. I'm spending the day sleeping and watching TV while sneezing and blowing my nose. Strangely enough, it's so nice to simply be sick.

I get it, I get it! Today I got a jury duty summons. I didnít panic like in the old days. I calmly emailed my doctor for a letter to be excused because of my distortional hearing loss (normally I call it crappy hearing). Letís hope the Doctorís assistant follows through, but Iím relaxed. So nice!

I hope you feel better, Renea.

Renea-
I understand what you're saying perfectly. I'd rather not be sick, but Lord, it is so much easier being sick now than when I was working.
I almost never missed school, even when I was sick because making lesson plans- which would never be followed anyway- was such a pain, and I hated what I came back to when I felt well enough to go to school.
Mostly, if I missed school, I was in the hospital.

I haven't thought about this, but you've pointed out yet another benefit of the retirement life. Good for you- and feel better soon.

good night to all- Ed

Oh yes! There have been a few days here and there when I have felt punk, not really sick, but not well either. What a joy to stay home, lay in bed, wear jammies, and just ...be.

Isn't it nice not having to prepare sub plans now that you're retired? That was always the worst part of being under the weather.

I'm sending healing thoughts your way.

I smiled when I read your post.
I hadn't much thought about it but you are absolutely right.
It is almost like a "relaxed cold".
Hope you feel better soon.

and thought about it just last night as I poured a never-been-opened Nyquil bottle to sleep by. Ahhhhh....the joys of not getting up and going in "half-way-healthy"

I totally agree!!! This is my first year of retirement and I was just thinking about being sick the other day. Every year for the past 22, (years I had my own classroom) I have gotten bronchitis or pneumonia 3 times during the school year at the same times each year. I didn't really see the pattern until this year when I have not gotten sick one time!!!!! It is amazing what enough rest and not as much stress can do for a human body!!!! I am still trying to figure out why I miss all of that - but I do!!! I don't miss being sick, and totally understand that when I do get sick - it will feel so much better to just be sick without all the other stuff that goes along with being a sick teacher!
