Should I go to my hairdresser?

She has her own place in her garage. She's only taking people she knows. I REALLY need a cut and color! We're not in shut down mode here and I haven't been out except to the grocery store.

I cancelled mine. That's too close contact. Just because she's taking people she knows doesn't mean they aren't carrying virus

Hey Deb, Iḿ not trying to be mean or rude, but people going out for non-essential things is why my county is now under shelter-in-place. She could be coming into contact with people who are carriers and not sick, then in turn each person she comes into contact after that can become a carrier, and so and and so forth.

Im seriously afraid by the end of this that our hair is going to be the very least of our worries.

No, I would not go. Last week, I cancelled my appointment. The salon closed the next day so I assume they were getting all kinds of cancellations and rethought things. Teachnkids is right- it's too close contact.

I also want to add, that we are staying home to flatten the curve and to protect our healthcare workers. Let’s think of them and stay home.

Not quite, those "people she knows" have been around/exposed to people she doesn't know. So, she's exposing herself and all of her other customers who come into her garage.

Has the city closed the salon businesses in your town? If so, it doesn't really matter if the salon is in a public or private building, it's still a salon business that the city may have told to close.

I know we all differ in opinions, but a haircut for me is a "want", not a "need" in our present situation.

You do not know where she has been and who she has had contact with. Be on the safe side for you and your family and stay home.

I know how tempting it is but they say you can not feel the symptoms for a week but still able to pass it to others. You could get her sick or she could get you sick and then it spreads from there.

I wouldn't. She can't guarantee that the people who have come into her garage aren't carriers or aren't in the beginning stages of the virus. There's a reason there's 6 foot physical distancing.

I know what you mean, though, my hair BADLY needs colouring and the lack of a cut is going to drive me crazy. I can colour my own hair with hair colouring that I, feeling slightly guilty because it's not food and it's not essential, bought on our weekly grocery trip last week.

Stay home, even with her isolated garage salon. She may be brewing it; you may be too. A lot of us are sporting cruddy looking hair right now - and if our shaggy manes save one life, it's worth it.

We cancelled ours last week. It is just to close of contact and unfortunately people are contagious before they show symptoms.

We explained to our hair dresser that we didn't want to unknowingly risk exposing her to the virus and that we looked forward to rescheduling when the crisis is over.

Nope. She may "know" her customers but there is no way she can know if they have COVID19. Why take a chance that you'll bring something home to your family?

Definitely not. So our hair gets grey and long...that's not the priority now. Who the heck cares about hair right now. As much as we've all been saying how quickly it spreads?! I don't care if she's still styling 100 people's hair a day. Do YOU still want to be exposed to all those people? And of course we all know that that doesn't mean the people are all present there at the time to be exposed. If she was smart she'd stop doing people's hair these days.

Also the priority is definitely not trying to "keep our longtime hairdressers or whoever else in business during this tough time". Our health and prevention ention of spreading is now #1 NOW.

Thank you! I know you are all right! Who cares what my hair looks like, I'm not seeing anyone anyways. Plus I'll save a bunch of money, lol!
I just needed to hear it from your voices of reason!

Glad to hear you are not going.
I don't color my hair, but I already know it's going to get longer.
My hair is wavy/curly, and I'm already starting to get one of those popular 30's/40's hairstyles!!

and I sort of liking it A LOT!!

No! The reason for shut down mode that other states are doing is because people refuse to take personal responsibility.

People you know can be infected. People she knows can be infected. You can be infected and infect her and she infects them.

Thank you for cancelling. One by one, we can stop this spread. It takes each and every one of us doing the right thing, though.

Thank you!

I I know my state has closed

all nonessential businesses. Barber shops, hair salons and nail salons are closed in our state as well as NY and others. If it is a good idea for us, it is a good idea for everyone. JMHO

Even though she only takes one customer at a time and knows them all the virus is spread by touching an surface that someone else has touched and will stay alive for several days. No matter how she cleans there is still a chance for it to spread.

I understand the need for a cut and color but if we are all self quarantining, who is going to see you?

...hair salons were shut down a few days ago. Now all non-essential businesses have to close tomorrow.
