Parent survey funnies

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Our school sent out a survey about distance learning. I found the answers so interesting to read, for this question especially, and so telling of what we are all going through. I'm glad parents have a place to be heard, but it's not like we can do anything about 99% of the challenges they expressed. And then some were just plain funny!

Question: What aspects of the current distance learning plan is a challenge for your family?

Answers:
  • Really missing human interaction.
  • My child is unable to get her questions answered as she would live
  • Getting my student to focus and stay on task
  • Zoom meetings at this age are, according to my child "torcher."
  • The hardest part is getting our daughter to focus. It's much easier for her in the classroom setting.
  • The current format of Google Classroom.
  • Remembering to login to Zoom
  • Kid is very social and it is a challenge to meet those social needs.
  • My child does not particularly enjoy zoom calls b/c she wants to see her class mates in person
  • So many household members on devices and using bandwidth at the same time.
  • We have to teach our child more then we used to.
  • The internet is slow at times, glitches/cutting out makes it hard to hear the instructions/directions at times.
  • I vote more work. I want to somehow enforce more.
  • Itís just hard for 2 working parents to help our kids as much as they want. I know teachers are available to help, but my kids never call them.
  • It is hard my child to focus on digital meetings
  • 3 kids at all different ages and school levels.
  • Getting her to sit and start the work.
  • Kinders are tough to keep focused and busy.
  • My son is not as focused as my older daughter.
  • It's just so much virtual & online. We miss live activities and our friends a lot.
  • Reasoning with my child and explaining the current situation in terms that they understand.
  • Not knowing concepts and where they left off during this school year, so not being a teacher makes it difficult.
  • Some days we fall into a semi rhythm, others its like the apocalypse and Ií m literally waiting for someones head to start spinning around.
  • Distance learning isn't as engaging or as fun as real school,
  • My computer audio speaker has been difficult for the class to hear us participating.
  • having to homework police

These are exactly what I've heard from my parents. And if distance learning will be a thing of the future, some of these would be something for school's to work out. Like internet , technical difficulties, bandwidth, devices for all family members.

Thanks for sharing these... reasons why we will eventually return to what we're used to... the "new normal" won't be THAT much different but there will be some changes in direction. I would also note that these comments demonstrate a profound lack of understanding of and appreciation for teaching and learning on the part of many parents. Wouldn't it be wonderful if part of the new direction was more of a shared responsibility for the education of our children?

This one was my favorite too! I feel this some days, and I don't even have kids of my own.
