Remember my lemons?

A series of events:
*A bunch of you suggested the jar of lemons didnít look good alone. Iíve been thinking about that for a long time. (Jackie)
*I read this morningís survey about candles, found the one Iíd made with your help, and discovered the glass is all filmy. (I was given a perfect centerpiece for the spot Iíd originally had that candle so it was hiding in a cupboard.)
*I took the shells out of the candleholder, added others I already had, and put them in a jar I already had (from another failed experiment).

Better?

We would not go through that many lemons before they went bad--and we love lemons!

Whispering: MalloryJames, they’re expensive fakes.
I tried a bowl of 5 fresh ones when I first moved here and got fruit flies.

I remember your candle thread!! Isnít it ironic that all you really needed to do was just fill the jar with the shells and leave it at that.

Things do look best in 3ís and of varying heights. If I were you, I would take my time to find the just right short something to put in front of the two containers. A very simple glass candle, one beautiful seashell, a piece of rock or drift wood. Something that continues the nature theme.

That’s looks so pretty.

I agree with Keltikmom. Something in a glass that is the same shape, yet shorter. Perhaps a succulent? With aquarium stones in a compatible colour?

I'm not too crazy about the lemons and shells together. What about putting some faux limes in the smaller jar? I do agree with Keltikmom that things look better in groups of 3. Maybe the 3rd object could be a pretty bowl or candle, or small square-shaped picture or word art. I would also maybe anchor the arrangement on top of a round sisal place mat.

2teach2, I was just telling DD yesterday that I wish I had access to high-quality fake tangelos and limes. Let me know if you find them as fresh fruit almost immediately produces fruit flies.

Hereís not what you guys suggested, but it is 3 (and not shorter, but taller and thinner). And I donít know how to explain this, but the shells arenít as pronounced irl.

Good enough?

I also like to fuss and arrange decor in my home until it seems just right. One thing that has really helped me is to use math to help visually balance my arrangements. The key is to use the concept of thirds when you arrange. If you have a container of lemons the second glass cylinder should be 2/3 the size on the first. Not half. A third container needs to be 1/3 the height of the tallest.

There is also a formula that decorators use to balance colors in the home. I've been using this formula to help me select pillows and other decor items and it saves lots of time for me. https://www.hgtv.com/design/decorati...-to-your-space

Artists, photographers, and interior designers have these tricks up their sleeves that help create visual balance. Of course, my cardinal rule is to eventually do what pleases me.

I think it needs a tray beneath the lemons to ground the container. Silver might be a good choice, but you could experiment with other materials, colors and textures. I would then put another object on the tray, so you would have three objects.

I am late to this, but I do like the bowl of lemons best. Boy, those are some great looking fakes. My mom once had some fake strawberries that would fool everyone.

BTW— I want your kitchen!!

I really like the bowl of lemons. The pop of bright yellow against the blue backsplash is perfect. I liked the glass jars with the lemons and shells too but I didn't understand the grouping. I couldn't make the connection as to why they were paired together. But ultimately, it is your kitchen and you should do what makes you happy!
