Clip to ScrapBook #1

Can anyone recommend picture books to teach metacognition? I teach 3rd grade. I need books with words and wordless books. Thanks!

There is a new wordless book out on the fable "The Lion and the Mouse." I just got it at Barnes and Noble. The illustrations are really great.

Here are a few books that were on a list for metacognition:
The Animal by Lorna Balian
And Still the Turtle Watched
by Sheila MacGill-Callahan
The Birthday Thing
by SuAnn and Kevn Kiser
Charlie Anderson
by Barbara Ambercrombie
The Day of Ahmedís Secret
by Florence Parry Heide
Encounter
by Jane Yolen

Grandfatherís Journey
by Allen Say
Hurricane
by David Wiesner
My Great Aunt Arizona
by Gloria Houston
Tar Beach
by Faith Ringgold

Hope this helps

The Art Lesson

The Art Lesson by Tomie dePaola is good for students to start noticing their thinking.

The Stranger by Chris Van Allsburg is good for students to start realizing when things don't make sense.

One of my favorite professional books is called Comprehension Connections by Tanny McGregor. She includes the 7 comprehension strategies popularized by Goudvis and Harvey, but one of things I love about her book is that she includes great poster--which
I use--and great book titles. Check out her metacognition section...one of my favorites is the Red Book.
