I am teaching a unit about animal adaptations. As part of the culmination, students are going to have to think about a particular animal (that they have been studying for the past few weeks in depth) and decide how that animal would need to adapt should it be placed in a new environment. For example, a student studying penguins would need to tell me how a penguin would need to adapt in order to survive in a desert. I would like to kick this activity off with a great read-aloud. There have GOT to be some children's books out there about fictional animals who get put into new environments...I just can't think of them Any ideas?? Thanks so much in advance!

I think there's a Tacky the Penguin book where he goes to an island. I can't find it currently to check for sure and I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for but my first graders LOVE Tacky the Penguin!
