In reading workshop this month I need to teach the students about the speech and thinking bubble. Are there any good books anyone can recommend that shows the speech and or thinking bubbles? Let me know. Thanks

The Pigeon books (Don't let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, Don't Let the Pigeon stay up late, etc) by Mo Willems are great for speech bubbles.

What About Comics?

I teach 3rd grade and I have used the Sunday comics in the past for examples of the speech and thinking bubbles. Students stay interested beacuse they are colorful, but the best part is that some of the comics have both examples (speech/thinking bubbles) in one strip. My students have no trouble telling the difference between the two and what they mean when they are interpreting comics or writing their own.

Can't remember the title right now, but Do Not Open This Book! is a great book for this as well. I realize I'm several months late in replying, but maybe you can use it next time!

In addition to the Pigeon books, try the Elephant and Piggie books. I photocopy a page, white out the words, and make copies for students to create their own stories. It's a HUGE hit in first grade!!!
