Fifth grade pict book idea

I need an appropriate picture book to use the first day as a read aloud that has to do with names. Chrysanthemum and the Name Jar are always recommended but I need something for older students. Also something in place of Enemy Pie which I think so many grades already use.

This booklist is from my Investigating Our Names unit that I begin every year with.
Maybe there's one here that would work for you in 5th.

Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes , Three Names by Patricia MacLachlan , The House on Mango Street “My Name” pg 10-11 by Sandra Cisneros, Rumpelstiltskin, Wilfred Gordon MacDonald Partridge by Mem Fox, A Boy Called Slow, by Joseph Bruchac, Anansi the Spider: A Tale from Ashanti, Tecumseh, from Heroes of Ohio by Rick Sowash

The list you posted has so many books on it that I read in first grade. I know they are great books and I know rereading is so important but I think it is funny that with all the professional reading we do and reading for our classrooms we are all using so many of the same books.

I did save the books you mentioned above when I moved grades so I am glad about that. A Boy Called Slow and Heroes from Ohio I don't have so I will look into those.

Thank you so much!

Have you ever read More Than Anything Else by Marie Bradby? It is a good story that lends itself to a discussion of being thankful to have the opportunity to learn.

Mommy Doesn't Know My Name

Mommy Doesn't Know My Name by Suzanne Williams is a funny one to use, that none of my 5th graders had ever read or heard of. The story is told from the perspective of a little girl, maybe 5 years old, and she seems genuinely confused because her mom calls her by all kinds of pet names (like Pumpkin, Little Devil, Monkey, etc.).
