I was told along with 5 other RtI teachers that we will lose our jobs due to the fact that we are not credentialed and according to someone? title 1 funds can't be used to pay non credentialed employees. Our district was audited and in order to be in compliance we will have to be let go. I have been at this school for 9 years and I am furious!!!. We asked a simple question... If we are enrolled in a credential program online, will that save our job??

Do you have a state department of education? That is where my credential is from and they would have that answer for you.

We had to have a special reading credential to be a title I teacher, either Math or reading.

Can you ask to be transferred to another position that does not require a credential? Can you get credentialed as a substitute? In Nevada it takes 60 units to get a substitute credential--not sure about your state. The substitute credential might be enough to keep you on place--no guarantees, just a thought.

If your district was audited and is deemed out of compliance, there isn't much to be done to continue in place. The district would be required (and may still be) to reimburse the Title I funds that have been "wrongly spent." Some districts have been charged years of funding.

The fault is with the district. Be sure HR, the Superintendent, and the board know that you are being punished for others' mistakes. (Years ago, in my district aides were the primary delivery for Title services. The rules apparently changed and someone didn't pay attention.)
