Have you heard of the program? Do you have any experience with it or comments?

I was trained several years ago and used it for a while and loved it. The last couple of years I feel like I am not allowed to do what I need to for my students, see other post. I went to another level 1 training for a refresher and really want to begin again but still feel held back due to lack of availability with students because I am not in a classroom situation enough and no support from others in the buildings. I am planning on getting the level 2 training soon and looking at talking to my superintendent about options.

Oh! I saw your title and the title below it and I thought you were going to talk about quitting or something! I haven't heard of WhyTry before. I'll google it later on today, but I'm curious. It's an interesting title!

Like GraceKrispy, I thought you were thinking about quitting, especially after reading your previous post!

I have seen this program in my district and one of my SPED teachers tried it out, but it was too abstract for his kids. I remember thinking it had some good points though, but I can't remember a lot about it. Sorry!

It looks interesting. I hope your superintendent gives you some options for working with students on it. I found this link that gave me a nice overview. And I found out it was used in my kids' district in one of the struggling elementary schools in 2009-2010. I don't know if it was continued or not. Maybe you can find some stats to back up the effectiveness to help bolster your stance. When I looked up reviews, I saw several reports that might be useful!

I have been trained and have used the program in the past. It is super and I can see how it can be effective for teaching long range social/emotional. It went by the wayside because I am not allowed to or do not have the support and follow through that is needed to make any program successful. I went back for a refresher last week and it just made me realize I am not as effective as I would like to be in this position due to the obstacles I mentioned. Basically using the Why Try model I am in the loop and will continue to crash because I don't have the support to help me succeed. I have a meeting with my superintendent this afternoon to discuss my vision and goals and see what path I need to take.

Good for you for being proactive! It is hard reading all these posts about people not being happy in their positions and then they can't (or won't) do anything about it.

I hope your meeting goes smoothly. Keep us posted!
