I tried retirement, but it wasn't for me. I used to teach 6, 7, and 8 ELA and SS at a middle school. Returning now to a different school and grade level: 5th in a self-contained K8.
Hello! I'm a 2nd year teacher but new to this page. Last year, I taught 2nd grade but I will be teaching 3rd/4th this year. A big change! I'm very nervous and need advice on a combined classroom. Thanks!!!!
I am very proud to be apart of this group! I wish I had joined years ago, but better now than never. I have already found and downloaded so many great things!
Hired this week! 6th grade language arts! Scary! Have never taught before so this is all new to me. Am I crazy for jumping into the teaching field at the age of 45?!?
Not new to teaching...stepping out of the classroom teacher role. With this comes a yearning for a new and different role in the building. Yet, I am leaving a wonderful history as a classroom teacher. I think I will miss the ebb and flow of the year in a classroom. Interventionists and specialists, tell me what I am going to love in my new position!
Congratulations! I have taught fifth for many years and it is my favorite grade. Fun, smart, forgiving, among other traits. But also chatty, rambunctious, and lazy when allowed to be! Get your "systems" straight. They like a good system to follow, but they also thrive on independent choices. Check in to the fifth grade forum!
Hi...noticed your post...def a different 'beast'.....I taught MS SS for years on and off again...thought I was done with classroom and tried Admin....now, moved to new area, all new experience....feeling a bit overwhelmed as a 'first time 4th Grade Teacher, self-contained" K-12 School.
Best Wishes!
My first day was today......still spinning.
MS/HS special education here, in a resource room environment. I'm alternatively certified so I'm also going to graduate school to get my MS in special education...I am eagerly soaking up all the education been there/done that wisdom on these boards!!!
First year as a Pre-K Teacher in a public school! I've spent the last 8 or so years in short-staffed daycares and Head Start programs. I'm very excited, as I've finally achieved what I've set out to achieve when I started Grad school more than a few years ago.
I've been teaching terms for three years but am moving to grade 3 French Immersion this year. First time setting up my own classroom, and first time teaching all the subjects!
I am not a brand new teacher, but I am a renewed teacher. I considered quitting teaching due to a variety of reasons, but I am rejuvenated, re-inspired, re-motivated, and feel like a new teacher again. I teach 5th grade math, science, and social studies in a departmentalized setting.
Hi everyone! I am a brand new teacher, and I am nervous as heck. I'll be teaching 6th grade girls in a Yeshiva. Because they start the day with religious studies, I have only 4 hours a day to teach general studies.
I will be teaching Kindergarten in September 2016. I am excited, yet also scared. Hoping to find some great advice on this forum from more experienced teachers than myself.
I am new to the whole classroom set up and need to set up 2 resource room areas (the rooms are shared with others to some degree). Looking for ideas for the front and writing area walls and white board area
I'm a first year teacher after working as a speech language pathologist in the school for 15 years. I am teaching Mandarin Chinese in a junior high and high school. I teach from level 1 to 5 including IB. I am experiencing severe anxiety and stress and don't know if I can make it. Everyday seems like such a challenge!
Newbie-- sort of. Long term sub started off on first day of school. First grade. Decided to get back into teaching after many years out of the field. Subbing seemed a good place to jump back in. So many new things since I last set foot in a public school!! No more overhead projectors, digifax machines or chalkboards! But it's exciting to get back into it. Thanks for letting me join this site!
Hi! I'm a brand-new teacher. I am teaching 1st-grade. I am new to 1st-grade. I did my internship in 2nd-grade, which I absolutely loved as well. I look forward to learning from teachers from around the country. I am also willing to share anything that I have learned. I still have lots of resources for 2nd-grade
To all the new teachers!! Welcome to the family and you can do this...my best advice is to take it one hour at a time. Focus on your classroom, your students, your management and the rest will come. Turn to the veterans for help when you can. Pray. Remember you are there for the kids.
Welcome Newbies! After 16 years of teaching, the "newness" of another year never wears off! I get excited; think, plan, purchase supplies, decor, all summer! (it's what teachers do) You will be just fine; remember the students don't know what you don't know! They actually think you know EVERYTHING! Especially in the younger grades, they look to you for ALL they need. Pace yourself, do 1 thing well, and then move to the next thing on your list. You can't get everything done WELL with your mind constantly thinking on "the whole list" all the time. Breathe. Smile. Enjoy your students, coworkers, the school building,...this is your new life!!
I am in an alt. certification/clinical program where I am paid as a teacher. I am grateful to have a paid position and be a teacher. However I feel I got the job no one else really wanted. I was the last hire for my school. It's been tough so far. I'm doing my best to stick it out and get another position next yr.
