My GS is in 5 th grade .. pretty smart dude... so I need something to challenge him yet push him towards 6 th grade . He can add subtract multiply and divide quicker than me . The reason I want him to stay on top . TIA

-to be able to read text and write well-developed responses to the questions.

-to know his multiplication facts backwards and forwards and backwards again with such automaticity there's no thinking involved.

-to be able to read a multi-step word problem and know how to tackle the problem and tackle it correctly.

-to be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions, both with like and unlike denominators.

-to be able to write in complete sentences using proper capitalization and punctuation automatically.

If I think of any more I'll come back to add them, but those are the first things that popped into my head.

I like the way you made it short simple to the point . He just got through reading “ Anne Frank “ . He had visited a holocaust museum just before the shut down . So we went through the book slowly . Located on the globe where the setting took place . I had him take daily notes in cursive. . We did several other activities as well . Tomorrow we start on the Wizard of Oz. I didn’t know there were several other books beside the traditional. Any ideas are appreciated

I'd also make sure he has a strong conceptual base of the operations. Learning the algorithm is one thing, but understanding why that algorithm works is true understanding.
