I love using Pink and Say when teaching the Civil War. Same with The Butterfly during WWII. Clould anyone suggest any more picture pictures that would work for 4th grader SS? TIA

What's your curriculum? It sounds close to mine - I pick up after Civil War and go to modern day.

I like Coolies, about the Transcontinental Railroad and someone recommended Casey Over There for WWI which I love.

It is a new content for me, so I'm looking for titles too!

I, too, have a hard time finding picture books to draw the kids in. One series, though, that I like to use to introduce the unit is the "You Wouldn't Want to Be..." Series. They have them for Civil War, American Revolution, WWII, etc. They are good for giving the facts in kid language. I believe one of the authors is David Antram.

by Eve Bunting is a great pioneer story. It has more text than most picture books.

Civil War: B is for Battle Cry by Patricia Bauer; Blue and Gray by Eve Bunting; Redlegs: A Drummer Boy by Ted Lewin

I also like Coolies...use it during immigration unit along with The Memory Coat, Coming to America by Betsy Maestro; When Jessie Came Across the Sea; Nettie's Trip South
