Class Routine

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Hello fellow math teachers,

I am brand spanking new to teaching math and looking for some general classroom routines. I've taught Language Arts for many years and have zero math lingo and zero math tricks in my pocket. We *do* have a curriculum, which of course I am going to follow, but in general, do any of you have certain openers and closers, any technological integration, that sort of thing?

Thanks in advance!

Not sure if we have "bump" messages on these boards, but just in case...

(Are these boards always this slow??!)

Do you have a promethean board? I use it all the time with my math classes. I teach three rotations of math and it's basically broken down like this: 10 min opener with problem of the day & fact practice, 15 min interactive learning, 15 min guided practice, 20 min independent practice 30 min stations (centers).

How long are your math classes?

Yes, I do have a smartboard...

I'm not understanding your rotations. Do you do all of those in one math period? I have one hour. We also follow the Connected Math curriculum.

I would love to know what kind of openers you have if you don't mind.

That is one rotation. However, I have 90 minutes for each of my classes. My opener is either a fact practice or problem of the day from our curriculum.
