Because I was anxious about something going wrong with my house closing, I didn't give notice at my apartment until right after that, so now I have 30 days to move and am doing so slowly. BUT, honestly I could have easily done it all in a week or 2. But if you're feeling stressed, no harm in taking your time.
First (I'd start this even if you're not even looking at places yet):
-Start purging your belongings. Now is a great time to do the Marie Kondo/does it bring you joy thing. I looked through all of my things and decided if I used/enjoyed that item enough to deal with the hassle of packing and moving it. Of course it will depend on how much stuff you have- I'm not a pack rat, but still had stuff to get rid of. I set a goal to throw out at least one trash bag's worth of stuff every day. I also organized the stuff I was keeping.
Then:
-Work on changing your address (assuming you have access to the new place- don't do this until it's yours/you've received keys). I made a list of all the places I needed to contact and it seemed like a lot, but with so much being online now and I was able to do this in about an hour one night. Here's the places I had:
-USPS
-DMV
-Employer
-Health, vision, and dental insurance
-Car insurance (I actually ended up getting a discount, as my new neighborhood was considered safer

)
-HSA card
-Bank
-Credit card (different company than my regular bank)
-Cell phone company
-Amazon
-Start taking things off the walls in your current place. Again, figure out what you want to save and what you can get rid of. When you start with the walls, you're still packing, but not causing disruption to the things you're still using daily.
-Shop for any big new things you want/need for the new place. I decided to do a new look for my living room, so I got new furniture, which was actually delivered today. I'll look for smaller touches/decorations later as it's not important to have the entire place decorated perfectly upon move in. The only other big thing I need is a washer/dryer, which I'm actually going to look for today.
-Look through a few online reviews and choose/schedule movers. IMO it is 1000% worth it to just hire professionals. My move should cost me less than $300 including tip.
-Start packing up belongings, starting with the items you use less frequently and won't decide you still need in the middle of the packing (i.e. lesser used kitchen/cooking things, clothing, extra hangers, etc.) Make sure to label boxes with the room and general description of items. The movers will put the boxes in the right room for you.
-Deep clean wherever you're currently living. Because I have a cat, I'm waiting until we move into the new place and then I'll come back and do things like clean the oven with Easy Off, use bleach on the shower tiles, etc. If this isn't a concern for you, this is also something that can be done early.
-Set up new services/cancel old services, or transfer services for:
-Internet
-Cable if you're getting it
-Electricity/Gas
-Gym membership, library cards, any other local memberships you have
-When you get into the new place, unpack things that you need to use right away. I'm the type of person that will just want it all done once I'm there, but if you're not, set a goal for a number of boxes you'll unpack daily so you're not living in box city for forever
