Bill for Covid 19 Vaccines
Old 09-04-2021, 03:43 PM

In March I went to another county to receive my Covid 19 vaccines. I received a bill yesterday in the mail. Unfortunately I did not go out to get my mail until after 5 so no way to call the billing department until Monday morning.

Everything I can find online says the shot is free to the patient. Has anyone else received a bill?

The bill is just over $20. I can afford to pay. I just wonder why it took 6 months to arrive and wonder if it is some sort of mistake.

I thought it was free, too.

So probably some sort of mistake. However, I hate to tell you this, but you won't be able to check it out until Tuesday. (Labor Day) That is, assuming you're in the U.S.

I wonder if this is some sort of scam- they're just hoping to get your payment information. It's widely know that the vaccines are free, and if someone was trying to charge, it would be more than $20 I would think.

I would look up whatever company is claiming to have sent this bill. First of all, see if it's even a legitimate company. If it is, call the customer service number directly listed on the website (assuming you're sure it's a legitimate website). Don't call any number listed on the bill.

where I received my vaccine shots. It looks legit. Name is on envelope and invoice. But that is good advise I will look up hospital billing online and call them on Tuesday.

The vaccine is free. I bet they are trying to stick you with some add on fee…like a band aid

This is wrong on so many levels. Free at home tests should be allowed and provided to every person needing them. I was at a clinic the other day and a woman was upset that her bill for a covid test was $136.00. It was a stark awakening for me and others in the waiting room. Best of luck . Vaccines and tests should be free to everyone.

It is free.
As well as checking the phone number, check the address against the one listed online.
The pharmacy can bill you insurance a nominal amount for administering the vaccine, but you are not responsible for any charges.
Walgreens billed my insurance $8. This was listed on one of the forms I had to sign.

Definitely look up the hospital billing and call that number directly (versus the number on the bill you received) to ensure you are not calling a scam number.

I agree with this and wonder if there was a mixup or miscommunication. My insurance was billed, but I believe it is still free to everyone. Don't pay it, at least for now.

My insurance was billed for administering the shots about 3 months after. I didn't have to pay anything. So it's possible it has just not been paid by your insurance. If you don't have insurance, you should not be billed anything.

The insurance companies are billed and reimbursed. No one should get a bill.

cost of covid vaccines & tests

While the vaccines are free, the tests are not. Still, the woman should be reimbursed through her insurance company. A neighbor had to have a PCR test done before she could fly to another country. It was $150. My hair stylist had to pay $170. They were both able to recoup some of that expense through their insurance company.

Lots of startups have taken advantage of the fact that the federal CARES Act doesn't limit how much they can charge for tests, and they usually require payment upfront.

It is then up to the customers themselves to seek reimbursement from their insurance companies. Under federal law, insurance companies are required to cover processing fees and copays associated with COVID-19 tests, but it can be difficult to get reimbursed for those extra costs once they are paid by the customers. Many of those test providers charge customers additional fees beyond what insurance covers.
As my local PBS station said, it's the Wild West out there when it comes to COVID-19 testing.

I had to come back to this, because oddly enough, today I got a "bill statement" from my insurance provider for my first dose of the vaccine that I had back in February! Mine says I owe $0 though- they send it basically just showing they paid the costs. Very odd that I'm just getting this now! Maybe they just got billed? I didn't get the vaccine through my insurance provider- another Tricounty connection ended up being faster.

OP, did you get yours sorted out?

I got a recording that said to leave my name and number plus invoice number and they would call me back. That have not called back yet.
