Running for school board

Tomorrow morning our small town is having a question/answer forum for those running for school board. I am one of the candidates. I hope I don't make a fool of myself.

Good luck and good for you! (And I hope school board meetings aren't as contentious in your neck of the woods as they are here.)

Good for you! School boards need more educators and their valuable experience.
I would assume that questions about COVID will dominate the session.

Yes, mask mandates were discussed

Two candidates are running specifically because they are opposed to masks. Two of us were clear that there are many other issues to face. DH said I handled myself well, showed that I would not be wishy washy, and had a professional demeanor. The election is Nov 2. We’ll see what happens. And yes, our board meetings have been confrontational, with one man having been escorted out by police, shouting as they dragged him out. I’m not looking forward to that part of it.

school board

You are a brave soul to be doing that in these times. But what an exciting adventure. I hope you win! We need people with experience in education on the school boards, not those who thought it would be a great way to be in power and not understand what really goes on in the classrooms.

Good for you! I agree that having a teacher perspective could be so enlightening on school boards. All the best to you. Good luck on voting day. You'll be great!

It will be a wonderful addition because I'm gathering not many know the rules of state adoptions, IEP's, or anything having to do with educational law. CRT will no doubt come into play. Good luck and I wish you all the best.

Are you the representational candidate from your teacher's union?

That’s awesome! A few years ago, we had a retired teacher run for and be elevated to the school board. She’s been amazing during the pandemic; a much needed voice.

No. I’m not the union rep. I have a lot to learn about finances and other things that are not a part of the daily teacher routine, but I do have a lot of knowledge that needs to be brought to the table.
