When do you get your schedule?

School starts in less than 2 weeks and we are still waiting for our specials and daily schedule. Our principal is a control freak so she tells us when we teach what - no choices. I would like to set up my plan book and send a summer letter to my students. Do others have to wait until the last minute?

I've heard that I have an awful schedule this year. Special first thing in the morning. Then lunch and recess before 12. We will have a very long afternoon. Our day ends at 3:20. I would like to see it in writing and know for sure before I get too upset.

We got ours on the first day back.... first day of pre-planning. We don't get anything before school starts. We don't even get our class lists until the day before or day of our Meet and Greet, which is usually Friday before school starting on Monday.

We usually get them the first in-service day back. Good luck!

but that is because the teachers make the schedule during teacher workdays right before we start.

A schedule rotates among the grade levels and we choose our own times for various resources & lunch. It is one thing our principal does a nice job of empowering his teachers with.

We have four days this year before the students come in and we usually get our schedule on one of those days. I just wished they kept the same schedule every year. If they see that it is working, I don't know why they change it every year. It doesn't make sense to me.

I'm envious of all of you that get your schedules so early. We get our PE release schedule during the in-service days before school starts. All the other schedules (computer lab, library, etc.) take a few weeks into the year before their organized and ready. Frustrating!

We usually have to wait until preplanning, but this year we got them in July! Not that I've really done anything with that information until now, but it was nice to get!

Usually 2 weeks before classes start. It's never cast in stone and many, many revisions will be made before the final draft.

We got our schedules, but...

we haven't gotten our class lists yet. School starts 1 week from tomorrow, and they tell us we'll get our lists tomorrow. They like for us to send postcards to the kids inour classes, but they're sure cutting it close.
My class also has specials at 8:20 (school starts at 8:15). We get one recess right after lunch, and that's it until school is out at 3:15. I'm used to having a recess in the afternoon, but they cut that out this year (don't know why yet).

Very few changes

Clip to ScrapBook #14

We have very few changes from year to year. When the art teacher changed, there were a few small changes. This year, we are losing elementary technology but picking up Spanish (used to be 3-5 only with teachers staying the room--not a true specila). Now we all have it during our old technology period. So I've known my schedule all along.

Jealous!

I am jealous of all of you!!! I don't think I have ever gotten my specials schedule before school started (and I've been at 5 different schools in my district). Our specials teachers usually use the first few days of school to meet and figure things out. Several years I didn't even get ANY specials the first week of school! I have always wondered why we are supposed to be totally prepared by the first day, but the special teachers aren't.

Ours actually stayed the same this year. Usually the rotate specials, but most grade levels wanted to keep their schedules the same. Unfortunately for my grade level, we didn't like our schedule and were hoping for a change. Oh well, maybe next year!

We don't get ours until after the kids are started! We don't get any teacher work days or inservice days before school starts either. We start back the day after labor day same as the kids. We have a meeting the afternoon that first day and pass around the schedules then. Everyone takes turns picking the times they want for PE, Music, computers, and library. Then we have to play around with the schedules for a few days to finalize them.

Well, we just recently "got" specials-- library and music. so we decide with the teachers on the meeting days before kids come as to when. we all talk amongst ourselves to figure it out. We have a small school though.

Even though we now have library and music, I still (because of my line and the needs of that line) had a class every minute of the day except for duty free lunch. when half my class was at a special, I had kids from another class join the last half of my class. So every morning and afternoon were "long" for me

we get our schedules right before picking up the kids on the first day. and the paper always says in big bold letters VERY TENTATIVE!!! lol, it's kind of a nightmare because you never know ahead of time how much to plan for in the morning. makes the day pretty exciting

the first day of school. The reasoning being that the 'numbers' may change and they don't want to plan and then have to change anything. I always find this strange as the classlist always looks the same as in June! I think the schedule is always a last minute thing.

We get
Old 08-11-2009, 05:13 AM

Clip to ScrapBook #23

a schedule that has our specialist and common planning time listed and we create the rest. We have the number of minutes required for each area, but we can design our own schedules. We get our "tentative" class lists at the same time. This all happens at the end of the year. We have the whole summer to work on it! The secretaries will type the schedules up on a form in August.

I feel for the teachers who only have one day to get their schedules arranged!

I received my schedule yesterday and school starts next week. Just like the original poster, I have all but one special, am recess, and lunch before noon. Was like that last year. But our lit block and science/SS is in the afternoon and it seems to go by really fast.

We get both our specials schedule and our class lists in June. Since there's only one class of every grade, I guess you could say we've known our class lists since they entered K. I'm 5th, so that's a long time to anticipate!
