Clip to ScrapBook #1

We have Art on Friday afternoon and have to come up with our own ideas. Generally it is an arts and craft type thing. I am trying to get together a list of ideas for the year. What are some favorite art projects you have done with your students. I teach third grade.

Some of mine:

Symmetrical butterflies

Punching out each child's name on the ellison machine, then they decorate the letters and hook them together.

Making stained glass looking projects with aluminum foil and overhead sheets.

Clip to ScrapBook #2

Here's a link to my Pinterest art page: http://pinterest.com/tchrrx/crafts-for-kids/

The projects I've actually tried from there are:
- Kandinsky's eccentric circles with pastels
- Van Gogh inspired Snowmen with pastels for the background and cut paper for the snowmen
- zentangle hearts (not near as cute as I was hoping for)
- Piet Mondrian inspired art. I just had the kids cut squares and rectangles from blue, red, & yellow. Then, they glued on black strips of paper to separate things out.
- 3D hand drawing (some of them were good, but not all)
- black line glue pumpkins (ok, not great)
- scarecrow (Absolutely adorable! This took a couple of weeks due to all the layers, but it was so worth it!)
- patterned leaf (for some reason, just doodling patterns was a hard concept for this group)
- watercolor flowers

I don't see it on my pinterest site, but I also did a 'how to draw a cardinal on a branch' lesson. They used pastels on dark blue paper and added a snowy background. They were gorgeous!

ETA: I googled to find the cardinal lesson b/c I didn't want to lose it! It's now on my pinterest page also.

Clip to ScrapBook #3

I just finished organizing enough art lessons for the year and I tied them into the grade 3 curriculum. The only problem is, I don't think I can post the document with them because I didn't credit the source on several that I used from a variety of sites. I just copied the picture with my snipping tool to remind myself and wrote details.

On the Pinterest site above, I did the cherry blossom painting with the bottom of a seltzer bottle. Very easy to do and just stunning when finished. Worth a try.

Wow like the poster above I find art a challenge. Getting organized ahead of time... when the bell rings at 3:00 is just not the time to face what to do for art. I plan to get at least six ideas for Sept-Oct organized before going back to school. Having the supplies organized and ready. Another summer goal.

Thanks for the link. I plan on having the kids keep an art portfolio or scrapbook and there are some good art ideas there.
