Funny ex story for you ......

(or so ridiculous it makes you laugh!??!)

My ex and his fiancee went to see my 21-year old DD in her senior musical in college. Afterwards, they said things like, "Great show!" "So good to see you on stage again." But nothing about HER performance specifically.

She wasn't the lead (and that's a LONG story!), but she had a great featured part and basically stole the show with her hilarious lines and expressions. She also had a duet, which brought down the house every night.

So WHY didn't they even mention her performance??????????

They didn't recognize her.

She has long, straight, dark brown hair. She wore a short, curly blonde wig in the show. And because it was a comedic role, her voice was very different (think Betty Boop lol).

My other daughter suspected this was the reason, and said to them at dinner last night, "Wasn't her song hilarious?" And they were like, "She had a song???!??!"

I'm perpetually shaking my head at their narcissism and self-involvement, but this takes the cake lol.

I would like to say I'm surprised, but I'm not. My ex didn't even know how old my daughter was and guessed the wrong age. Like wtf?

How sad that he didn't even take time to read the program, and admitted he didn't know his own DD.

Some people! At the very least, since they had made the effort to go to see her perform in the musical--wouldn't you think they would have figured out which one she was? Which would involve looking at the program--which would have given the clues needed to identify her.

Apparently they are clueless.

And therefore EX.

That's kind of sad! I could see not recognizing her if her hair and voice were different (it's hard to see on stage sometimes), but could they not check the program? They know her name, right??

Congrats to her on what sounds like an amazing performance!

My dh- who is an active and involved and caring parent- doesn't always know the age of our kids He does know their birthdays, so there is that!

I agree that the fact that they didnít seem to know who she was in the show is despicable. One thing I can say being a music and theatre person myself is that some people who donít know anything about either, tend to not understand everything that goes into it and maybe they just did not know how she did because they know nothing about what makes a good performance. This of course does not excuse them, they should have just said good job no matter what, but it could be a reason they commented the way they did.

Answering some questions:

Quote:

Because of Covid, they haven't seen her onstage since Summer 2019, when she was Katherine in Newsies (pretty easy to spot lol).

They probably arrived too late to read the program, or didn't pay attention to her character's name lol.

She's getting used to being disappointed by her father and his overbearing fiancee. But she was VERY upset by their blah comments, which were then followed with, "Well, I guess we'd better hit the road!" No flowers, no photos, no dinner afterward, etc. Just so disappointing.

It's really sad that they're used to it. It breaks my heart and a lot of issues stem from it. I'm sorry for her and all the kids that feel this way. I'm sure just like my kids' dad, ex accepts no responsibility. Something I will never understand is making kids then just feeling absolutely no responsibility for them.
