Another Interesting Interview

Clip to ScrapBook #1

You may remember me from the post about "Let's Take A Selfie". Well, here's another interesting related story.

A different teacher interviews for a position. She has never taught before so this would be a first job.The interviewing committed leader called the teacher to inform her that she did not get the position. However, they would keep her app on file in case another position became available.

A few days later, the teacher's mother called to say that maybe her daughter had not extolled her virtues and qualities well. Then, proceeded to let the committee leader know why they were making a mistake in not hiring her daughter and how they shouldn't waste other people's time.

OMG!!! I have been on many interview committees and they're never as exciting as they seem to be in your District haha

If I was that candidate I would be absolutely mortified by this but it sounds like this might be one of Angelo's former students haha?

Way to go, Mom. You just moved your daughter's application to the circular file. Principals can't weed out students with helicopter parents, but they can weed out teachers with helicopter parents.

I have read about this happening in the private sector, mostly in internships and entry-level jobs.

I wonder if the candidate knows her mother did this?

Maybe her mother works in the district or has connections with someone in administration and thought they would do this "favor" for her daughter?

Holy Crow....so when we say things to each other in the staff lounge like, "doesnt snowflakes mom realize that she is hurting him by not letting him deal with failure and the consequences of his actions. What does she think she is gonna do when he is grown complain to his boss or brown beat his judge".

WEll, apparently that is is exactly what some think

I also have heard from a friend in human resources in a large corporation that parents come in to plead for their child's job after the adult child has been fired.

All part of the same parent mindset that beings in early elementary.

I really hope whomever spoke with that mother let her know how wildly inappropriate her call was.

This is the product of what we've had to deal w/ for quite a few yrs now.
Why do these types of parents do this? Maybe because schools have let them!
Our system is broke.
I thought of Angelo 1st too...1 of his parents, but then got to thinking of some gems I have had in the past.
Along w/ a PP, I am scared for our future!

Well, this could go one of two ways - either we get a 2 for one deal, because mommy will be by Jr.s side helping or we are totally screwed because mommy won't be there to tell Jr. what to do.

I can hear the whirr of her rotors from here! All those poor teachers who had to put up with this pair from elementary to high school and most likely into college as well. Just wow!!

Case was weird but not a huge red flag to me. This one is a major red flag. These parents are just so used to bullying schools around when their kids are students that it's extended into attempting to do so when their kids apply for jobs as teachers.

Unfortunately these parent are from an entitled generation. Now we have parents calling CC teachers about grades. At one time the concept was they were earned and not given.

If I'm an admin in that district I make a mental file not to hire that teacher because of mom.
