Apparently I suck...

Apparently I suck as a teacher. My kinders are just getting worse with behaviors (mainly talking and playing) even when I'm directly telling them to stop and listen. Parents are driving me crazy. Just a rough day, and I'm sick and tired of being in school...spring break is still so far away!

You don't suck! It's just that time of year where the kids are going crazy! The school counselor at my school says that December, March, and June are the craziest times of the year. I believe her!

So it's not you. It's them!

My team mate, whom I admire as a teacher more than almost anyone else in the world, just texted me today that her kids were melting down and she felt like a failure as a teacher. Itís totally not her, just as it isnít you. Itís the weather, the time of year and so many outside factors. Take a deep breath, go over expectations again and know that you got this.

I think that this a contagious condition, because I have felt that way all week.

I like my class and I think they are genuinely cool little people, with interesting ideas and cool ways of seeing the world. I also think in general they are hard working and they want very much to learn, grow and be the best versions of themselves. They have also grown by leaps and bounds.

This week though......................... ..........:

Tomorrow is the last day before spring break and I wanna call in sick!

I blame March behavior on reaching the limits of their tolerance of being cooped up by the weather and also on the time change - it throws their little bodies off more than even they actually realize!

and so do teachers.
I have had it up to my eyeballs w/some too.
The words, "Just sit down and Shut up!" have been in my mind.
Thankfully, the words do not come out of my mouth!

affect behavior of students and teachers and their resultant interactions.

As other posters have suggested it's a combination of cabin fever, weather change, time change, anticipation of spring break, etc.

Here's an interesting article about the effects of time change on the body.
https://www.health.com/sleep/dayligh...e-health-risks

Just as barometric pressure changes can effect changes in behavior (we're mostly water after all)
circadian rhythm changes can influence us as well. Hopefully the time change doesn't happen at or near a full moon!

There's only so much we can do. It's impossible for us as individuals to overcome parental enabling and an instotional structure that winks at kids and tells them "you don't really have to follow the rules your classroom teacher tells you to; just do whatever you want."

It's happening to me too. More and more students are choosing not to work. they simply talk the entire Art class. Some don't even bother to pick up a pencil. As a result of students not working for two consecutive classes, I had to e-mail 15 parents yesterday, and another 11 parents today.
